OOMA Info |
OOMA is a loose-knit
ministers association, no “membership” or dues. In 1990’s pastors in Oxford/Orion started
meeting to have fellowship, just to get to know each other. Over the years we have started doing a few
things together: National Day of
Prayer, Good Friday Service, Thanksgiving, with offerings taken for local
ministries: Love INC, Pregnancy
Center, F.I.S.H. We are also sometimes
involved with the Oxford HS Baccalaureate Service. ·

OOMA Leadership & Planning |
We
ended last season agreeing to start this season with a discussion of possible
changes the OOMA leadership or to ratify current leadership. Suggestions: ·
Have someone on
OOMA who: o
Contacts new
ministries directly – Bob Holt volunteered for this position (pending semi-retirement),
with help from info provided by Rochelle’s database. § New pastors: King of Kings Lutheran (interim),
Community of Christ (Gary Perreia) o
Promotes events
in the community – Kevin Miles volunteered to be this person! ·
Lunches o
Prayer over the
leader and ministry of the host church o
If not, the
minister bringing the devotional can be the focus ministry ·
Have rotating
chairperson o
Bring
devotional o
Pick a topic o
Move through
agenda (lead meeting) o
Collect items
for agenda o
This
chairperson’s ministry will be highlighted and prayed for by those present |

Thanksgiving Service |
If
we do it, it would be the week of or before Thanksgiving (Nov 28). Sunday night hasn’t had good attendance,
other suggestions? ·
A multi-church
choir ·
Better
advertising ·
More volunteer
roles from churches ·
Possibly skip a
year to get idea of interest ·
Develop a hook ·
Take advantage
of township meetings for announcements ·
We will plan to
have a service, each will think about it and survey staff, and we will start
planning at October meeting. Date can
be set at October meeting (Sunday/Monday/Tuesday of Thanksgiving week). |

Open Forum |

Rochelle shared
about several multi-church opportunities: o
911 Prayer
Movement (42 churches involved): Praying against suicide in our area, now has
42 churches committed to praying once a week. Also, there is a speaker
coming to Kensington on Oct 10th at 7 pm, a dad who lost a son to suicide and
now travels around schools speaking to students ages 7th grade on up. o
There is an
intention to build a database of local ministries including services offered
and event scheduling. This is an
initiative for Love INC and Oxford Pregnancy Center, and OOMA will benefit. o
Rochelle
mentioned the existing website: www.oxfordorionministers.org o
Rochelle will
start posting minutes on web – make sure they are in .doc .pdf format. o
A LOHS teacher
has requested help from local churches in providing for an at-risk program
she is teaching. See attached letter
from LOHOP (Lake Orion House of Prayer) ·
Kathy Hasty distributed
a flyer from “interfaith volunteer care givers” Rochelle will make sure Love INC gets the
information. All agreed it would be
nice to have someone come and speak with us.
Rochelle will get back with Kathy after speaking with Love INC. |
